Abstract

This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the Bolivian economic model which was adopted in 2006 and was valid for almost 15 years. For that purpose, the effect of this paradigm was evaluated on six Bolivian indicators: production level, exportations, economic diversification, per capita income, human development and environment. Following the methodology of synthetic control, a “synthetic Bolivia” was built based on 100 countries in the period 1991- 2017. It was found that the economic model had very modest effects on production level and per capita income, almost null effects on human development and negative effects on economic diversification, exportations and environment. Therefore, the ineffectiveness of the Bolivian economic model was demonstrated, the improvements in the indicators were caused by a favorable extern situation, mainly.
